She has deep experience at the intersection of oceans, human rights and security—-but has reported on everything from the intimacies of war to the ravages of heartbreak.

Shannon has years of experience filing for radio programs—-from BBC/PRI’s The World to NPR’s Marketplace and Morning Edition.
She is currently in development on a couple of podcasts.
Shannon broke the story of slavery at sea with co-producer/reporter Becky Palmstrom for NPR’s Morning Edition. The series sparked congressional hearings and inspired follow up reporting from The Guardian, The Associated Press, The New York Times and others.
This series also formed the basis for GHOST FLEET—Seahorse’s Emmy-nominated feature documentary.

Shannon launched the news division of satellite television station FREE SPEECH TV where she reported from Iraq, Palestine and Israel. She served as the station’s News Director for three years. She went on to file for other video news platforms— including The New York Times where she collaborated with Ian Urbina on The OUTLAW OCEAN.
The team was awarded an Edward R. Murrow Award for investigative reporting.
